Alexandra YueQing was adopted
from Hefei, Anhui Province, China in October 1997 at the age of
two. She has memories of her first family and of the Hefei Social
Welfare Institute.
Here is Alexandra at her school's
Native American Day here on the pueblo. Her class danced the
Navajo-Hopi dance.
(My great aunt used to paint her
cheeks in circles exactly like these!)
AnnaKate MeiLi is from YangDong
in Guangdong province. Her paperwork says she was born in October
1997, but we suspect her actual birthdate is late April or early
May of 1998. She came home August 1999.
AnnaKate is at last able to
smile and giggle many times in the course of a day. Alexandra
took this picture, and had to beg her many times to look at the
camera and smile. She took many pictures, but this is one of
the better ones.
AnnaKate DID manage to cut her own
hair three times over the summer.
Here are a couple of new ones
taken late one Friday afternoon in March while I was working in
my classroom. Alexandra has begun creating these wonderful "ballerinas"
and AnnaKate is finding many more smiles. (Of course, she's also
pulling out way too much of her hair!)
